Krišs Salmanis
Krišs Salmanis (b. 1977) lives and works in Riga, Latvia. He studied at the Art Academy of Latvia and the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM), Germany. Salmanis has exhibited at Kim? Contemporary Art Centre in Riga, CAC Vilnius, Art in General in New York, A4 in Chengdu, and numerous other institutions. He has received several awards, including the prize at the 13th Tallinn Print Triennial (2004), the 19th Videokunst Förderpreis in Bremen, Germany (2010), the Purvītis Prize (2017), and the Latvian Theatre Award (2019). His works are held in the collections of the Latvian National Museum of Art and the Art Museum of Estonia. He has participated in numerous international artist residencies, including HIAP in Helsinki, Finland (2012), KAIR Kamiyama in Japan (2015), and ISCP in New York, USA (2022). He represented Latvia at the 55th Venice Biennale. Salmanis has previously held three solo exhibitions at Kim?, and Bitter marks his return to the institution since his last exhibition there in 2016.
